It is no longer news that the entire world is going through a critical period due to the Coronavirus pandemic also known as COVID 19. The virus which started in Wuhan China in late December 2019 to early January 2020 has shut down the entire world starting with the developed nations.
Asia, Europe, America, Africa and other continents have had their own share of damages in human lives caused by COVID 19 and the future still looks bleak for many. Medical practitioners are still struggling to understand this virus before coming up with a permanent cure but while the research goes on, WHO has come up with various precautionary measures to be taken in order to curb it's spread some of which are social distancing, regular washing of hands, not touching ones mouth, nose, eyes with unsanitized hands, keeping a clean environment and many more.
Many nations believe the only way to curb the spread of this deadly virus is to enforce stay at home measure popularly called lockdown for their people. The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari announced on the 29th of March 2020 in a nationwide broadcast a total lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja for the period of 2 weeks. Since then, both the Federal and State Government has embarked on emergency stimulus package for poor Nigerians and some organizations are doing same too. One of these organizations is Touch of Love and Lifting Hands Foundation Chaired by Engr. Atinuke Wuraola Owolabi.
Engr. Atinuke believes government can't be left alone in this fight against COVID 19 which requires everyone to contribute its quota. Touch of Love and Lifting Hands Foundation before now, has been known as one of the few non-profit making organizations committed to taking care of the aged, less privileged, poor and widows as seen done during the christmas period and empowering the youths in its different free empowerment and training programmes.
They have come out again with an emergency food intervention and risk preventive materials distribution project with the target of giving supplies to at least 500 aged people and the abandoned widows/widowers in the society. This is done with a package that consist of rice, beans, bread, indomie hand wash, sanitizer, hand gloves, face masks and other items. Engr. Atinuke Wuraola Owolabi believes there is need to focus on these people because they are disadvantaged.
Engr. Atinuke, a core professional in the engineering space ensured the organization did not break any of the precautionary rules laid down by the government in the process of giving these aids by making sure the package is taken to them in their various houses in the 2 days epoch making event. The beneficiaries are overwhelmed by the kind gestures and were full of praises and prayers for Engr. Atinuke and Touch of Love and Lifting Hands Foundation as a whole.
Engr. Atinuke Wuraola Owolabi later advised every privileged citizen within the state and nation as a whole to replicate this and put smile on the faces of people in this trying time.
Engr Atinuke Wuraola Owolabi is a registered member of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria amongst many others.
