CHANGE OF MANTLE IN NIEEE: ENGR. KINGS ADEYEMI BECOMES THE 19TH NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF THE INSTITUTION

The Frasers Suites Hotel, Abuja was buzzing with dignitaries from the Engineering Society from within and outside Nigeria in a grand ceremony where the mantle of the leadership of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers fell from the immediate past president Engr. Funso Adebayo FNIEEE to the new elected president, Engr. Kings Adebayo FNIEEE on Saturday the 25th of January.


In his opening speech, Engr. Funso Adebayo, the outgoing president emphasized on the importance of making electricity available to all Nigerians through emerging technologies. He said market women and people living in remote areas do not need to know anything about electricity, what matters most is  making electricity available to them.




He further said they have taken electricity project to at least seven communities in Nigeria including the Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDP) Camp, signed MOU’s with different private power companies and institutions all in the effort of ensuring power gets to all.


The President of the apex engineering body in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Babagana Mohammed, FNSE who was humbly represented by his Deputy Engr. TSG Wudil, FNSE. in his opening remarks said the Nigerian Society of Engineers have recently set an agenda to resuscitate the advocacy for technical and vocational education in Nigeria which is a frontier to achieving wealth creation in Nigeria.


He also shared that the Society in the next 2 years would be attentive to constructive contributions  that offer advancement and professional advice to the political leadership of Nigeria .


The Guest Speaker Dr. Mohammed Ngala, a senior lecturer from Bradford University UK, in his paper titled “Continuing Professional Development“ emphasized on the important roles played by  engineers and engineering activities in every society which according to him require engineers to keep updating themselves and going for regular training which is important in every engineers career.


It was a gathering filled with frenzy and knowledge impartation as speakers after speakers took to the stage to address the honourable audience. One of such speaker is the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communication Commission Engr. Prof. Umar Danbatta who was represented by Bako Waki a Director at the NCC, started by commending the efforts of the NIEEE in discharging their duties as a professional body and the role the NIEEE is playing in assisting the Commission in delivering their own mandate. He however suggested that it is time for NIEEE to rise up and play major role in the area of emerging technologies such as Block-Chain, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Big Data Analysis and others.


And also speaking before the main investiture ceremony is  the Special Guest of Honor, Engr. M.B Shehu, FNSE who is the Vice President of World Federation of Engineering Organizations He said the Africa broadband project is something that must be taken seriously highlighting the efforts of the international engineering organization in ensuring broadband access to all Africans above the age of ten.
The new president in his short acceptance speech promised to carry out his duties to the best of his abilities and according to the constitution of the institution. He also in an interview with engineering today news crew, reiterated  the need for engineers especially the electrical and electronics to be at the forefront, taking the leadership role and set the pace for optimal contribution to national growth and development. He later on carried out his first assignment by decorating his predecessor with the lifetime medallion and also inducted other members of his cabinet.



The event ended with award of Fellowship to worthy members of the institution that has proven their professional competence overtime.
