APWEN LAUDS GOV OKOWA’S ACHIEVEMENTS IN DELTA STATE

The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria paid a courtesy visit to the governor of Delta State, Sen. Ifeanyi  Okowa on Tuesday to mark the opening of this years’s National Conference of the Association. The governor who received the entourage was very impressed with the achievement of the women association in helping the state and nation as a whole in promoting the campaign for the girl child to study sciences and engineering in particular.



The governor emphasized that only sciences can create job for the future which in turn would be able to take care of Nigeria’s growing population and even globally. He also made it known to the group the effort the state has made in increasing the number of science and technology teachers employed within the state and assuring them of giving more female teachers the opportunities needed in this area.

The Association further commended the governor for the reforms and giant strides he has made  so far in the state as development in different areas are visible and promising.



The president of the women association Engr. Dr. Felicia Agubata FNSE gave the governor a brief on what the association stands for, their achievement so far especially in the area of encouraging the girl child to do sciences, scholarships awarded to students, promoting education nationwide and many more. The convoy was made up of other important personalities within the engineering ecosystem in Nigeria some of which are the National President of the Nigeria Society of Engineers Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu FNSE, his Deputy Engr. Babagana Mohammed FNSE, Engr. Funmilola Ojelade MNSE Vice President of APWEN, among others.

The visit marks the beginning of the week-long Conference to be held in the Press Centre section of the Government House in Asaba Delta state where the Deputy Governor  Barr. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro declared the Conference open during the opening ceremony after the courtesy visit to the Governor.
